Application Case of Cast Stone Composite Pipes in the Transportation of Moderately Acidic Ultrafine Clay Tailings
Shanxi Zijin Mining has selected cast‑stone composite pipes to construct two tailings pipelines with a combined length of 15,000 meters. The project was officially commissioned in April 2022, serving the transportation of gold‑mine tailings and processing up to 10,000 tons of raw ore per day. To date, it has been operating steadily, with no leaks, no wear‑related failures, and no maintenance issues, fully demonstrating the product’s long‑term reliability.
The project transports flotation tailings from the Yixingzhai silver–copper polymetallic mine, which are hydrothermal vein‑type sericite‑quartz ultrafine tailings. The particle size distribution has a d50 of 0.024 mm, with 92% passing a 200‑mesh screen; the true density is 2.74 t/m³, and the total sulfur content is approximately 4.3%. The slurry is conveyed at a solids concentration of 46%, with a slurry specific gravity of 1.47 and a pH of about 4.3. The tailings contain a high proportion of flaky mica minerals, exhibit a relatively high yield stress, and present elevated pumping resistance, making them representative of typical medium‑to‑acidic ultrafine clayey tailings transport conditions in North China.
In the face of harsh operating conditions characterized by severe corrosion, high abrasion, and significant resistance, cast‑stone composite pipes, with their outstanding wear and corrosion resistance and structural stability, are perfectly suited to the demanding requirements of complex slurry transport. Backed by a proven track record of long‑term, trouble‑free operation, they demonstrate exceptional practicality and broad applicability, offering a mature and reliable solution for the long‑distance, heavy‑load, continuous conveyance of mine tailings.
