Application Case of Cast Stone Composite Pipes in the Transportation of Highly Corrosive Ultra-Fine Tailings
Zijin Mining has installed cast‑stone composite pipelines to convey tailings from the Yutian Pit tailings pond, with a total length of 2,000 meters. The project was completed and commissioned in December 2022, serving the transportation of copper‑mine tailings. It processes up to 50,000 tons of raw ore per day and has been operating continuously and reliably ever since, with no wear, no leaks, and no unplanned shutdowns, maintaining excellent performance throughout.
The project handles alum‑shale‑type, high‑sulfur flotation tailings under extremely severe operating conditions: d₅₀ = 0.027 mm, 90% passing 200 mesh, true density of 2.86 t/m³, total sulfur content of approximately 9%, slurry transport concentration of 43%, slurry specific gravity of 1.49, and a pH of only about 3.2—characterizing a typical ultrafine, highly corrosive tailings medium.
In the face of harsh conveying conditions—high-sulfur content, severe corrosion, and ultra-fine muddy slurry—the cast‑stone composite pipe continues to deliver outstanding performance, operating reliably and stably over the long term. It fully demonstrates superior wear and corrosion resistance as well as structural stability, with remarkable practicality and exceptional adaptability to diverse operating conditions, providing a stable and efficient solution for the long-distance, high‑load, highly corrosive tailings transport in large copper mines.
