Application Case of Cast Stone Composite Pipes for Transporting Zijin Gold Tailings in Xinjiang
Xinjiang Zijin Mining has deployed cast‑stone composite pipes for its gold mine’s tailings‑transport pipeline, with a total length of 5,600 meters. The project was officially commissioned in February 2024 to convey gold‑mine tailings, processing 10,000 tons of raw ore per day. To date, it has been operating steadily, with no leaks, no wear‑related failures, and no maintenance‑related issues, demonstrating reliable and consistent performance.
The project transports flotation tailings from the Savayartong Gold Mine, which are fine‑grained, arsenic‑bearing pyrite‑type bio‑oxidized tailings. Operating conditions are extremely severe: d₅₀ = 0.021 mm, 94% passing 200 mesh, a true density of 2.84 t/m³, an approximate total sulfur content of 7.8%, a slurry concentration of 45%, a slurry specific gravity of 1.46, and a pH of approximately 3.3. The tailings also exhibit a high content of clayey sericite and an exceptionally high yield stress, making this a typical engineering challenge in cold‑climate regions involving the conveyance of highly corrosive, ultrafine‑clayey tailings.
Despite the formidable challenges posed by extreme cold, severe corrosion, and ultra‑fine slurry with high yield stress, the cast‑stone composite pipe continues to operate reliably over the long term, fully demonstrating its outstanding wear and corrosion resistance as well as structural stability. With strong practicality and exceptional adaptability to demanding operating conditions, it provides a mature and dependable solution for the long‑distance conveyance of complex tailings in gold mines located in frigid regions.
